THIRD TAB: PROJECT OVERVIEW: (900 CHARACTERS-with spaces) With these LCC funds, children and families from “name of your town” will enjoy the interactive storytelling performance “Night Lights!” designed to complement the Summer Reading 2019 theme “A Universe of Stories.” Diane Edgecomb is one of New England’s premiere storytellers, winner of the National Oracle Award for Storytelling Excellence, Diane has been a favorite at libraries, festivals and schools for over thirty years. This free performance is for those participating in the Summer Reading program, their families and all those who wish to come from surrounding communities. In Night Lights, audience volunteers can join in the Estonian tale of the Milky Way, discover the starry treasure the Old Apple Tree hides and help Princess Firefly discover the bug that she will love. Lots more in this animated performance as enchanting tales take us on a multi-cultural voyage across the heavens.

WHO IS THE TARGET AUDIENCE FOR THIS PROJECT (250 CHARACTERS-with spaces) The performance will be open to the public with a focus on Summer Reading participants and a general family audience ages four and above.

WHAT IS THE COST OF PARTICIPATION FOR ATTENDEES (IF ANY) (100 CHARACTERS-with spaces) This will be a free performance open to the general public.

HOW DOES THE PROPOSED PROJECT PROVIDE PUBLIC BENEFIT AND CONTRIBUTE TO THE CULTURAL VITALITY OF THE COMMUNITY AS A WHOLE? (750 CHARACTERS- with spaces) This performance would be an important component of our Summer Reading Program which is beneficial to all who participate in the program and attend the free events. This program is devoted to encouraging reading and cultivating community. As well as being of artistic merit, this performance would create additional interest in the Summer Reading Program. Storytelling appeals to both young and old and can inspire them to share their own tales as well. (You can add more here if you wish.)

PLEASE DESCRIBE THE QUALIFICATIONS OF KEY ARTISTS INVOLVED IN LEADING THE CULTURAL COMPONENT OF THIS PROJECT (750 CHARACTERS-with spaces)

Ms. Edgecomb has been the recipient of numerous awards for her storytelling including three Storytelling World Honors Awards and a Parent’s Choice Silver Award. She brings both original stories, songs and adaptations of traditional tales from around the world. A featured storyteller on NPR and winner of the National ORACLE award for storytelling excellence in the Northeast, Diane is known for transforming into the characters in her tales. “An entire cast rolled into one!” – Publisher’s Weekly

IF THERE ARE OTHER INDIVIDUALS INVOLVED IN THE PROJECT AS PLANNERS, PARTNERS OR COLLABORATORS PLEASE LIST THEM BELOW. DISTINGUISH BETWEEN THOSE THAT HAVE MADE A FIRM COMMITMENT AND THOSE WITH TENTATIVE OR POTENTIAL INVOLVEMENT (500 CHARACTERS- with spaces) (your name or name of librarian), Youth Services librarian at (name of library) library in (name of town ) will be producing the storytelling event. She/he will coordinate all publicity efforts, and take care of all needs associated with the performance space and community outreach. This will include reserving and making ready the performance space and interacting with the performer so that all runs smoothly.

HOW ARE YOU PLANNING TO PROMOTE THE PROJECT TO THE COMMUNITY AND YOUR TARGET AUDIENCE (500 CHARACTERS) (Note to librarians using this form please select all that will be relevant to your outreach process) Flyers will be distributed to the local elementary school, at the library and in town. Electronic promotion will include press releases to local media, library website promotion and e-newsletter, and Diane’s e-newsletter.

FOURTH TAB: BUDGET OVERVIEW

PROJECT BUDGET Salaries/Stipends: $475 (Note to librarians: this performance fee for the hour long presentation is $475 and includes travel to locations within the 128 belt surrounding Boston. Please contact Diane for an exact travel quote for areas at a further distance. She tries to keep fees minimal!)

Travel fees can be added to the performance fee or put separately in the “Other Expenses” Field.

REMEMBER! Diane loves to perform at libraries and tries to be as accommodating as possible. If you have had Diane’s programs at your library in the past she will do her best to match fees from previous years. If you block-book with another library you will both receive a $75 discount and no travel fees.  For additional questions on fees email dedge@livingmyth.com .

IN-KIND DONATIONS (500 CHARACTERS) The library will provide the venue space for the performance. (name of librarian) as well as coordinating and leading all publicity efforts. It will donate material and time to create the relevant flyers.

HOW WILL YOU ADJUST THE PROJECT IF THE COUNCIL CANNOT FUND THE ENTIRE AMOUNT YOU ARE REQUESTING? (250 CHARACTERS) The library or friends of the library will provide the additional funds if this project is not approved for full funding.

Make sure that your cultural council does not require any extra documents! The “Local Priorities Tab” for your Cultural Council will let you know if  your town’s LCC has special guidelines or requirements. Let me know if you need anything else from me…
