A Fire in My Heart: Kurdish Folktales

Diane Leads Kurdish Dance with Students

Immerse yourself in the world of the Kurds of the Middle East with this lively and interactive performance. Entertaining Kurdish folktales from Diane’s book: A Fire In My Heart: Kurdish Tales will alternate with colorful slides, music and anecdotes of her time visiting with shepherds in remote villages. Favorite tales include The Lie: the story of a funny tall-tale contest between a feisty nephew and his uncle, Fatima: the beautiful Kurdish Cinderella story, as well as tales of how the moon and Milky Way came to be. Traditional dress and dance round out our exploration of this little known culture.

Praise for A Fire in My Heart: Kurdish Folktales

Diane is a gifted storyteller sharing fascinating tales from the Kurdish people. She has a wonderful stage presence and beautiful voice. We most appreciated all of the interactive elements she prepared. It was a pleasure working with Diane and hope to have another opportunity in the future.” Wendy Dodek, Museum of Fine Arts, Boston, MA

“How fun and exciting to have you visit Pine Point School! And, I have to tell you that I have heard such wonderful comments since the assembly. You inspired questions and comments all over campus and you were a hit with both students and faculty alike. Diane, I am in awe of your courage, and can’t thank you enough for sharing your stories with us. Sandy Pereira, Cultural Enrichment, Pine Point School, CT
