Kurdish Storytelling Project
In an effort to document the last living Kurdish storytellers Diane and other Kurdish contributors have collected fairytales, legends and animal fables from Bingol, Dersim, Nuseybin, Mukus, Van, Elazig and the Mt. Ararat region of Turkey, hero legends like Rusteme Zal and stories of the Shahmaran ~ half snake half woman. Diane has been collecting stories from Kurdish tellers for seven years and is in the process of creating an online archive of Kurdish tales. If you would like to contribute contact us to receive a form you can send to us along with your digital quality DVD of the storyteller and a brief synopsis of the stories. Diane's story collecting project has resulted in the publication of A Fire In My Heart: Kurdish folktales It was released this January by Libraries Unlimited www.lu.com It is the first comprehensive collection of Kurdish stories to be publised in English. Diane offers performances to complement the book. Speaking engagements can be short half hours talks to accompany a book signing, or an indepth performance and slide show of her storycollecting journey among the Kurds with legends collected and anecdotes of her travels.
