Millennium LabyrinTh a Living Myth Event
created by Diane Edgecomb and Mari Novotny-Jones along with Ean White
In Living Myth events, an environment, in this case the subway system, is compared to a location from a myth. Boston's MBTA becomes the Cretan labyrinth from the myth of Theseus and the Minotaur. Our frenetic pace, embodied in the train, is the fearsome Minotaur monster we must defeat.
From December 1999- January 1st, 2001 twin Ariadne figures appeared in the MBTA to help bring commuters safely into the Millennium. These Goddess-Guides improvised with commuters, re-counting ancient legends, telling the future based on the lines and colors of the T map or tying a golden thread of hope around the finger of a weary traveler.
Additional photos and write-ups of the event will be posted on this website at a later date.
